Great Start To the Season

8 Oct 2018 by Everton Forbes

Saturday was the opening game of the season and our young Warriors played their game with confidence. After loosing the tip off and conceding the first basket we began to own the floor. The first quarter we traded baskets until we settled into the game after some patient basketball and intelligent movement on and off the ball our boys grew in stature. As a result of this intelligent play we controlled the game in all 4 quarters.

Manny was given the captaincy for the first game and he appeared to take the roll on with pride. From when his name was called out to be the captain until the last moment of the game Manny played some impressive basketball driving to the basket and dishing the ball off to team mates. Spartans appeared to struggle managing Manny’s aggression and gave away fouls. Manny continued to deliver more punishment swishing at least 10 free-throws in a row!

Another standout performance came from Josh Impong easily one off the most aggressive players in the squad. Josh was unfortunate with the fouls he picked up but displayed a maturity that may of bothered him in the past. Josh managed this well and continued to play strong basketball and was another leader in the game. There were many players that impressed during the game both Coach Fatch and Ev were impressed with the maturity and patient basketball from Toby Randles. His coaches have feared that Toby wants to do all jobs and impress by taking all shot and being involved in all aspects of the game. Instead Toby impressed by moving the ball around the floor and moving off the ball too. Toby only took open shots which came as a result of patient play from the team around him.

Both Fatch and I were happy with the team performance and saw that training seems to be making sense to the team. Patient offences really helped in finding the open man, at times Spartans were chasing shadows and had no answer to this. Fatch also managed to get a full bench rotation and give vital minutes to all players aiding them in their basketball progression.

Final score
Warriors 81 Spartan 59
Let’s continue to grow as a team and train hard which makes wining easy

Let’s Go Warriors
